Mysteries, Puzzles, Secrets, Riddles

I am an entertainer. I investigate mysteries as part of my work. The title, 'Doctor of Metaphysics' was bestowed upon me by the Universal Life Church. I became ordained by them in order to perform a marriage ceremony for a young Hollywood power couple. To respect their privacy I won't reveal their names here. I have learned in my many many years investigating mysteries that the word is the power but the meanings are many. You have to be clear to be totally free.

As an entertainer I have played many roles and I have worn many hats, including producer, writer, and actor. In Hollywood, actors have always been warned to be careful not to get typecast. I think that conventional wisdom is changing and actors are more and more encouraged to find a niche in order to define their 'brand'.

In the realm of the internet the successful players definitely find a niche and specifically market their keywords. Word is the power. On the web, owning a word brings power. Not surprisingly, the mystics and sorcerers have know this for thousands of years and Madison Avenue has also always known this to be true. (22 Immutable Laws Of Marketing)

In Hollywood I have played a fool, a thug, a nerd, a grifter and convict, Now I am told I play the dad (smile), and also the cop. Hollywood is finally coming around to see me as the detective. This is a role I have played in between Television and Film roles for over twenty years.

I am talking, of course, of my work as the detective in my interactive murder mystery plays and my crime scene theater. I am very proud that over the years, Sharpo!® brand has risen to the very top of this genre. A mystery is only a mystery to the curious. Several years ago, my curiosity for magic got the best of me and I began studying the art and craft of magic. I am now a proud member of the Society of American Magicians. Among the first presidents of that society was Harry Houdini. I now regularly incorporate magic into my murder mystery shows and quite often delve into the realm of the paranormal.

I think it was in an effort to not be typecast in murder mysteries (even though it never hurt Peter Falk's career) that I wanted my brand and my name as entertainer to evolve from being synonymous with murder mystery to mystery, comedy and magic. I now realize that magic is mystery and and comedy is as well. So, actually, the evolution is to boil down Sharpo, Inc and Eric Howell Sharp, the entertainer, to one word: Mystery.

I know from my years of experience that audiences love crime scene mysteries and detective fiction because they want to solve the crime. The satisfaction for the reader, viewer, or player is in the solving of the mystery itself. The murder element adds the sense of danger. Audiences love a mystery thriller. But there are so many more mysteries than the type just described. Word is the power. If I am going to be typecast than I want to be typecast for investigating all mysteries and not only murder mysteries. That doesn't mean I am leaving the Mystery Writers of America, (I belong to so many associations, its ridiculous), it just means I am enlarging my scope. I am pulling back my camera to take in the bigger picture.

That is the concept behind detectivesharp.com 'Detective Sharp investigates the Universe.' Not too ambitious (as long as you have an army of clones so you can live a hundred lives at once). At that site are links to all sorts of mysteries including paranormal mysteries, mysteries of the ages, and of course, conspiracies. I cautiously entered that realm since I do not want to be branded as a conspiracy nut. Just like owning a word gives you power. It is also often true that being defined by a word is to be controlled by that definition of that word.

Mystery Synoynms: A puzzle, a problem, a secret, a riddle.

Mystery is defined by Dictionary.com as "Anything that is kept secret or remains unexplained or unknown: the mysteries of nature."

As I already mentioned, a mystery is only a mystery to the curious. One has to have eyes to see and ears to hear. To some the Tarot is merely a deck of playing cards. To others, it is tool that holds the key to the mysteries of the ages.

Magic (and Magick) is Science and science is full of mystery. The nature of time and space is a mystery.

"Let us proclaim the mystery of faith" says the priest in our church.

As I continue to investigate mystery, magic, and comedy, I will share what I learn with visitors at Sharpo.com and detectivesharp.com and I will continue to evolve my live interactive performances so that those with eyes to see and ears to hear can join me in my quest for solutions to these mysteries, one at a time.
